Health and Independence Service - GreenSquareAccord

Health & Independence Services

Our health and independence services support people aged 40+ across the whole of the Walsall borough.

Formerly known as Accord Age Matters, our health and independence services help Walsall residents get the most out of life.

From getting back into work to getting involved in social activities in your community, our programmes are helping people over 40 lead happy and healthy lives.

Services include:

Personal health budget support
We can help people who receive direct payments or a personal health budget to make informed choices about your care and support. We can also help you manage your budget.

We provide three levels of support, depending on your needs:

Level 1 – you are supported by a care agency or attend a day centre and you manage your own budget with the support of our Direct Payments team
Level 2 – you are supported by a personal assistant and manage your own budget, with help from our Direct Payments team
Level 3 – you are supported by a care agency or attend a day centre, and our Direct Payments team manages your budget on your behalf by opening an individual bank account

Healthy Years Ahead
Working closely with community and specialist services, we can help you to take practical steps to improve your health and reduce the risk of developing chronic health conditions in later life.

We provide advice, support and training on:

- emotional wellbeing
- healthy eating options
- increasing physical activity
-maintaining a happy, healthy and independent life

We work with both individuals and groups across Walsall. If you’re an employer, we can run tailored information sessions to help your workforce stay fit and well.

Help at home
We can provide you with as much or as little help as you need around your home through our help at home service. We could take care of the housework, do your shopping or go with you to doctor or hospital appointments.

We also offer a sitting service for carers who need some time to themselves, while their loved one is being well looked after.

Our help at home service costs from £16.90 per hour.

Pathways 4 Life
Our Pathways 4 Life scheme provides information, advice and signposting for people in Walsall with dementia and their loved ones.

We run dementia cafés where you can get advice and make friends over a cup of tea and our dementia personal assistants (PAD) can support you in the early weeks after your diagnosis.

Our specialist dementia support workers also provide support and training for care homes, hospitals and hard-to-reach groups.

Telephone befriending
Through our telephone support service, you can have a regular chat with one of our friendly volunteers – all from the comfort of your own home.

Volunteering opportunities
We’re always looking for people to help us provide our support services across Walsall. Thanks to our invaluable volunteers, we’re able to make more of a difference to more people’s lives.
