Sandwell Advocacy

Sandwell Advocacy is a registered charity who have been providing specialist professional independent advocacy throughout Sandwell since 1993. As such we are a well established community based organisation with a proven track record of providing high quality advocacy support. We were established to support vulnerable individuals who feel that their needs, rights and wishes have not been taken into account when attempting to access support services.

We support individuals who, through disability and social exclusion, feel that they have no meaningful involvement in decisions that are made which directly affect their lives. Our work makes a real difference because we have developed a model of advocacy that works with individuals to ensure they are placed at the heart of the decision-making process. We support people to ensure that they are able to explore avenues open to them, to discuss options and ensure that people make informed decisions. Ultimately we work to empower people to have more say and control over what happens in their lives. Our users tell us that they feel more confident to articulate their needs, rights and wishes more effectively as a result of accessing our advocacy service.

We have a proven track record of providing paid and volunteer advocacy support for a range of user groups including:
• People with learning disabilities/difficulties.
• Older people with mental health issues/dementia.
• Older people living in nursing/residential care.
• Young carers and their families.
• Older people affected by cancer.
• People with mental health issues.

We provide a model of advocacy that works within a person-centred enabling framework that builds the confidence of individuals to be able to make informed decisions and ensures they are able to represent their needs, rights and wishes. Being independent of service providers, we are able to provide impartial support that is free from potential conflicts of interest.
