Pathways Covered
Overview
All young people and adults deserve access to good quality information, advice and guidance about learning and work. Getting the right kind of information and advice can help people identify the most appropriate learning opportunities and make the right decisions about what learning or work is best for them. IAG can help people understand the skills, qualities and qualifications they need to improve their employability potential; achieve personal ambitions and help them find a course or job to match their needs.
Juniper aims to provide up to date and comprehensive information, advice and guidance on a wealth of education and employment opportunities for young people, to promote the benefits of learning, help individuals to address and overcome the barriers to learning, and support them in making realistic and well informed choices. Our staff are dedicated to providing a first rate and confidential service to all students offering impartial information, advice and guidance in relation to learning and work.
What we do
Objectives
- We provide students and staff with 24 hour access to information, advice and guidance prior, during and after they complete their training programme.
- We provide a range of impartial information, advice and guidance interventions to support students throughout their individual journeys.
- If we are unable to meet the needs of our students then we will refer or signpost to an alternative quality provider / support agency.
- We have a range of information sources that are quality controlled to ensure the information remains relevant and up to date, to assist with the support we provide to our students and stakeholders.
- What we offer
Beginning: We offer a range of services; students attend a personalised one-to-one ‘getting to know you’ session where they are provided with full details of the programmes we offer and what to expect from the centre staff and Juniper. Recruitment staff involved in this process provide information, advice and guidance to help potential students to make informed decisions to either attend our training programmes or to be signposted to more appropriate provision.
An initial and diagnostic assessment will follow once a student has confirmed their interest in the programme. A detailed induction takes place on day 1. The following information is discussed during the interview and recruitment stage of their programme:
- Information about their learning programme
- Eligibility requirements and details of qualifications they can work towards
- An assessment of their current academic skill levels
- A self-awareness assessment of their initial ‘soft skills’ measurement
- The availability of any support arrangements (travel/childcare etc.)
- Discussion on medium to long term goals

All centre staff are aware of the support agencies within their local areas and have access to and knowledge of National support agencies, if these are more appropriate to the student.
Centres have dedicated IAG boards and an IAG section on the internet which students are made aware of through their induction. This ensures that students are given accurate information and can be signposted appropriately
Middle: Throughout the students’ programme they have access to staff who can offer IAG. This may be through formal one-to-one reviews, student focus groups or informal one-to-ones with staff. All students are encouraged to speak with staff about any concerns they may have either about their career aspirations, their programme or their personal lives.
Students are encouraged throughout their programme to use the well maintained resource areas and have access to computer rooms and the internet. Staff ensure that IAG is offered throughout the students programme either informally or more formally through regular reviews. Students can access an internal qualified counsellor if they have issues that require higher levels of support.
End: Centre staff support students with progression options whether this be to further education, employment or apprenticeships. Students are also supported through the transitional period once they have left the programme; through our tracking systems where we monitor and support students long after they have left.
